Unipart Construction Technologies (UCT) partnered with ICAIR to conduct groundbreaking torsion tests on various composite 'slim-beam' configurations (with overall dimensions of 374x860x7600mm and 355x730x8400mm).
These tests aimed to verify the torsional capacity of UCT's innovative slim-beam designs, which offer efficient and sustainable solutions for modern construction.
ICAIR employed a novel testing methodology, specifically devised for this research. This involved the use of our large testing frame coupled with a unique sliding and pivoting load application cross-beam, meticulously designed and validated to ensure accurate and reliable test results, that allowed the beams to rotate by up to 5 degrees. Rotations were measured via tilt gauges placed on each beam end face. This innovative approach represents a first-of-its-kind solution for conducting such complex torsional tests on composite slim-beams.
The successful collaboration between UCT and ICAIR highlights the commitment of both organizations to advancing construction technology and delivering high-performance, sustainable building solutions.
